HOLLOW BAR MICROPILES
Hollow bar anchors are a threaded bar outfitted with a sacrificial drill bit. As the name suggests, the bar has a hollow center so grout can be pumped down the shaft where it exits ports in the drill bit during installation. As the pile is drilled in, debris from the bottom of the hole is forced to the surface using air, water, or a slurry grout mix. Once the pile has reached its required elevation, grout is pumped from the tip of the pile, creating a grout column around the hollow bar.
Hollow Bar Benefits
Unlike solid bar anchors, the installation of hollow bar anchors allows for grouting and drilling to happen simultaneously, reducing the number of steps needed to create the same strong anchor point. Hollow bar is versatile and can be installed at a variety of angles. Once in place, these micropiles provides strong resistance to compression, tension and lateral loading. Hollow bar is long lasting due to the grout column protecting the bar from corrosion and natural elements. Our team has installed hollow bar anchors for many years with varying uses such as tie-backs and shoring reinforcement.
